Hi,

Once again I'm seeking a photographer to a shoot or multiple shoots. I want to concentrate on semi-public places without getting caught. The main idea is spontaneity. Nothing too planned - just head out for an afternoon or evening and any interesting spot or location, we just go for it. No reflectors, lengthy poses, etc... I work best when I'm moving so I'm looking for someone who's good at capturing the right instance, rather than posing and creating the shot. There's a number of recent shots in my photos on Tribe. Feel free to ask any questions and I'm very open to ideas.

Studio space needed in Monterey area

Photographers and Models,

I am writing a process analysis essay on the process of photographing models and getting the best out of your shoot. As a photographer, I have learned the most about shooting subjects by modeling for professional photographers who knew how to direct amateur models, and from professional models that teach the craft of modeling. Please offer any advice or info about your personal process. I can use all the input to put together a sequenced process of tips of the trade that will help and inspire both professional and amateur models and photographers alike!!

Professional Photographers:
What are the key directing points you use in making your models feel natural, comfortable, and at ease.
What are some recourses that have influenced you, that you think could help others?
Preferences? Tips? Posing? Attitude?

Professional and Amateur Models:

Fetish Photographer Wanted

I am looking to take some Fetish/BDSM photos. There will be various poses and outfits and props to portray a BDSM sessions. I would like to shoot sometime in September. I have the studio. I will pay for studio time. You must have a Digital SLR Camera. I'd like to barter to the agreement below.

TFP/TFCD (Trade For Prints/CD). That is, the model doesn't have to pay the photographer, but gets material for their modeling-portfolio; and the photographer doesn't pay the model, but gets material for their photographic portfolio. These are for portfolio use ONLY, unless separate arrangements are made later.

It's a good way to build a portfolio -- a good deal on both sides. For newbies to the arena, it seems to be invaluable. Also, a good way to build a network; word DOES spread; photographers talk to photographers, models talk to models. OK... ive never doen any modeling professionsally so i dont really know how to go about finding a photographer. i have just been doing stuff for my friends Photo Portfolios and school projects but made sure they made them so id like the pix to be used in a type of i guess, modeling portfolio for myself. i was really excited cuz a friend of mine, who is a model, said hed hook me up with his photographer but... after he stopped talking to me... i never got to meet the photographer. so i really dont know how i should go about doing this, cuz i do want to do modeling... probably gothic, SOME fetish, anything for cannabis stuff hehe, and if i find someone doing vampire stuff. im not into the whole nude thing so i wont do any shoots where the clothes have to come off... No Way! maybe half off or something but no boobies or asses or vaginas get shown with me! heehee! sorry its just a body shy thing i have! but if anyone can take pix of me, thatd be awesome! i dont want the modeling as a full time thing, cuz i am in school and all that crap, but as a side thing giving me something fun to do and money in my pocket... id be very excited! heehee! modeling is fun when the photographer is patient with me! :) can anyone help out?!

I recently modeled for a photographer who stopped me at a concert, she asked me if I would pose for her in exchange for prints/CD. I had fun, the photos came out great, and I am looking to get more modeling work to build my portfolio or earn extra cash. I modeled for one other photographer before, and both times I was told that I was easy to work with and should consider trying to get more modeling gigs. Problem is that it seems difficult for me to find photographers who are looking for an androgynous grl-boi type. I am 5'9", slim, present myself as female but no/minimal hormones so I am male-bodied. 'm making a film, that will be somewhat explicit in parts. Also, there will be imagery that needs nudity.
I am afraid that I will not be able to cut the content of the movie script, even if I find actors interested .You can e-mail me with rates, photos, questions, etc. If your an actor or actress who has worked in nudity and/or sexual situations, is comfortable with it, and would like to take on a feature narrative film as a major role please e-mail me or show up to the auditions. The two main roles are the ones that require it but there are others. If you would like to be featured in sequences that do not involve the main characters, but are part of dreamlike imagery (that features nudity/partial nudity)you can either show up to the audition, or e-mail me with link to your work. Here is the plot:
Aberrant Behavior, is basically about two self destructive anarchistic-y street kids who have an exaggerated form of pica, a disorder where people feel compelled to eat non-food materials, carpet, dirt, soap, drano, various chemicals, etc. as portrayed as a drug addiction. Who are in a very self destructive relationship, there perfect for each-other except they literally kill each-other by being together. A lot of psycho-sexual/self mutilation-masochism in this one.There's more to it, but that's the basic synopsis.

Keep in mind the budget of this movie will probably stay around 25-35, 000 dollars (already secured), so just warning I can't pay the highest rates

I will be hiring for many roles, all ages (over 18) races, sizes, etc. But here are the main characters:
Main Characters:
Victor Muertos: (Mid to late twenties) Half Mexican/Half white (Half latino/half white will probably work). Black hair, down to chin and five o clock shadow. (Flexible though). Tall and thin but not too thin.
Dark, brooding, depressed, prone to long winded sarcastic, cynical rants. Living off the state for mental depression, and addiction, but eventually breaks himself from the state. He hates the state, and normal life in general. He hates almost everything. He is sort of sloppy hipster, slightly emo, slight slight slight goth meets street kid. Light or no body mod, piercings, etc. He eventually lives on the street because of choice.He falls in love with Aiko.

Aiko Zumbi (18-early twenties or look like it) Half Japanese/Half German (or Japanese, or half Japanese/Half white). Shorter than Victor, thin but still slightly curvy.
Street kid with a bit of dark hippie. Has been sexually abused as a child. Prone to violence. Prone to long winded rants, or sometimes just total silence. Dark, cynical, with a very bleak view of life. Body mods, tattoo's, piercings, fine. Dreaded or colored hair fine as well. Actually preffered.
She falls in love with Victor.

Emma May (20's to 30's) Actress must be thin, because character is anorexic. Very fake, superficial, manic laughing. Very self deluded. She doesn't really see her anorexia as a problem, she think she looks great though she's obviously dieing and goes to extremes to keep herself thin. She is always dressed up elegantly and thinks of herself as a proper lady even when doing something grotesque . She is a head executive at a advertising/pr firm that she gets a Victor a brief job at, through meeting him in a class over there mutual addictions. (Brief Nudity /Partial a few times)

Caseworker Joe (30's-40's) Written has hispanic, but open. Larger guy, tall, built like a shed, a bit fat but not flabby fat. Very coarse, to the point, direct "Take no shit" kind of guy. Very normal, buys into the whole big house in the suburbs, good job, etc. He is Victor's Caseworker, and is tired of Victor's Shit, and believes he is not trying to quit. (None)

Glitters- a gay gangster rapper, take everything that's a cliche and horrible about it and flip it so that it's gay (some, will also need male models)

Pedida Muertos-Victors Mother. A nearly catatonic morally apprehensive drug addict who's always sleeping with random guys and ignoring her child (Some nudity/sexual situations can be negotiated to less)

And then random visuals, nudes for some flashback scenes (of some sort of psuedo porn the main characer shot) a girl that Victor sleeps with before he falls in love with Zumbi (requires brief nudity/sexuality) and some body part imagery that will not feature the face of the actor/actress, among other thing

I need before I even start:
Prostethetics/Makeup- There are many parts of my movie that need gore, ghoulish makeup or creating body casts for dreamlike effect (like a scene where they fall onto the ground and break like porcelain blood-paint spraying out of them creating a heart) but most importantly I need someone who can help make someone look anorexic, eye sockets reccessed , hips sticking out, ribs sticking out, shoulder blades, etc. I can't start without this because it's one of the main characters.

Boom-I have someone lined up for operating boom/mixing sound, but I'm not sure he'll always be available. I need someone who has at least some experience in this to help. I have equipment but having (better?) equipment would be great.

Props- It would be great to have someone who can assist in creating edible (or non toxic) chemicals, substances, materials for the main characters to ingest. It would also free me up to think about other things.

Lighting/ Art Department/ Set Design/Decoration/Locations- I need someone who can do a lot without a lot who can work with unusual materials. Who isn't too expensive or I won't be able to afford you. Also may be able to transform other locations into desired location.Things needed for instance underground bomb shelter turned into run down sorta apartment. Abandoned buildings. Offices. Fashion Show. A sewer, where the characters live in and eat off of trash.

Set Decorators/Builders:
Though the majority of the movie will be in real locations. There will be a few sets built, and sets that will be decorated to fit the movie. I am looking for people who have experience building sets (theater experience would be great) on a low budget. Resourcefullness in materials is needed (Meaning you can do a lot with not a lot). Building flats, painting, decorating.

Prosthetics/ Make-Up: Though this is not a gore horror movie. There is quite a few instances of gore. People who have experience in mold making, prostethics, sculpture. etc. would be very helpfull. Also people good at making people looking sickly or malnourished through make-up needed. In addition Emma May, the severe anorexic will need added pieces to protrude her brows and jaw, her ribs, collar bones, hip bones, etc to make herself appear much thinner. Actually a lot of make up needs from simple to complex through out the movie.

Vfx-Compositors- Though this will not be a special effects epic, there will be things needed. Good flashy two animations/composting for some of the fake commercials/promos. Possible fire and underwater animation. Some manipulation of the video -color fluctuations, shrinking an enlarging, simple morph effects, color globules to represent visual aberrations in the characters eye-sight. Some 3-D needed especailly those who are good working with modeling human figures. But mostly more simple 2-D basic 3-D stuff. I may do this myself, but send me a link to your work, and I might hire you for the movie.

Props: I will be doing much of this myself, but may need help in re-creating chemicals, materials, such as drano, soap, dirt, carpet, many other instances through-out the script, to create realistic looking edible (or at least non toxic ) substitutes for the substances they swallow.

Mechanical/Puppetry- Not needed for a lot of the movie. But there is a few scenes with Emma Mays giant snake like tape worm that slithers around. Also a scene where skull bowls start vomiting (have to read script to explain) Could do myself, just seeing if anyone else might be interested.

Lighting Designer: Though I will likely take over this role myself, and a lot of the footage will be shoot in the streets style. There will be a few locations that will be staying in for a long while in the script, and would like good, stylized lighting for maximum creepy effectiveness.

Costume: I already have a few people on board for this, but as this movie ends in a big Valentines Day Fashion Show. I am looking for people who could be commisioned for clothing for that event (and other sequences in the movie as well). Also, previously made pieces could work.

Underwater Camera- Anyone who would like to rent me an underwater camera, or who has experience filming underwater, this is needed for a few sequences.

Boom Mic/ Sound Mixer- I already have someone onboard for this, but never hurts to have a second position, or a backup

Pyro/ Fire Safety/Explosion - This really isn't needed for a lot of the movie. But there is one scenes where a whole room catches on fire (with possible stuntman that catches on fire, I made do this in special effects). There is another scenes where a home-made bomb blows a crack into a wall and makes it crumble. I want these scenes to come off effective and safe.

Security- Not throughout the whole movie, but there will be scenes where I will be filming in potentially dangerous locations, and a climax that will need crowd control

Legal/ Locations- I will probably do this myself, but if anyone has experience in finding or knowing of great locations, or securing permits for locations. I might be interested in working with you.

Production Assistants/Co-Ordinaters (I am sure you know what this means)

Music- I have most of the music worked out. But a band fell out that I really felt I needed for some sequences. If your music is post -rocky, slow core or has that aphex twin meets godspeed you black emperor I may be interested. The kind of bands I'm looking for: Mew, Godspeed you black emperor, Explosions in the sky, Spiritualized, 65 days of static, Sigur Ros. Also in some music Portis-Heady could work.

Professional Photographer and Newbie to Tribes

I am new not just this tribe but all of Tribe.net. I am a bi-female in a poly relationship. First, being bi and poly living in a very conservative state I have to be careful who I talk to about my life. I am a professional photographer. I have run a large retail camera store and been lead photographer for over 15 years. I taught photography for many, many years and just recently quit my job to start my own photography business. The one thing about having left the retail camera world is I miss all the contact with other photographers and discussing what they are shooting and what types of equipment they like to use for what purpose. So anytime you want to chat about any of the above, please message me. I look forward to getting to know you.

Also since I am new to Tribes if you have a good tribe that you think I should investigate I would appreciate a steer in that direction. There seem to be so many tribes I tend to get overwhelmed just looking at the lists and forget what I was looking for in the first place. I am a major fan of Art, artistic people, photography of all types, belly dancing, writing, rugby, reading fantasy and fiction, hosting parties etc. If you have found a tribe that you really enjoy would you drop me a line so I can check it out so that I can get more connected. By the way I am also considering doing an art piece based on poly. Shooting poly groups in a mix of looks from the very traditional sit down studio pose to casual home life looks, to tastefully done intimate art shots. if anyone is interested in this aspect you are welcome to let me know. I am looking for real people. Don't think you have to have model looks to be a part of this. Because these relationships we have are important to us too, but its not generally something you just walk into sears and say can you take our family photo hehehe.

Fetish Photographer Needed Saturday August 18th. 2007

I am in dire need of a photographer with a Digital SLR that connects to a lap top so we can see the shots and know what to correct.

I found a great studio in San Francisco. It is $50.00 bucks per hour with a 2 hour minimum, I have that covered You have to be available to shoot, Saturday August 18th,207 preferbly in th late morning.

I am interested in a TFP/TFCD (Trade For Prints/CD). That is, the model doesn't have to pay the photographer, but gets material for their modeling-portfolio; and the photographer doesn't pay the model, but gets material for their photographic portfolio. These are for portfolio use ONLY, unless separate arrangements are made later.

It's a good way to build a portfolio -- a good deal on both sides. For newbies to the arena, it seems to be invaluable. Also, a good way to build a network; word DOES spread; photographers talk to photographers, models talk to models. Having a rep for professionalism can make the difference between getting a paying gig, and not.

Branding Your TFCD Work

This question is actually for both photographers and for models. I haven't done a lot of TFCD work, but I'm getting into it now because I'm moving my focus into more glamour, fashion, lifestyle and editorial. I have lots of contracts and releases for various uses, but I didn't have a TFCD release, but I assumed there would be some language about the specific uses of the images, etc. So I googled, "TFCD model release" and found lots and lots of resources and actual releases.

The releases I looked at seemed to have a common thread:

1 - they all give the model both high resolution images for printing, and web optimized copies for posting.
2 - they all give the model and the photographer the right to use them in any way for self promotion.
3 - they all give the model all images from the shoot, including the final images, except for blurred or otherwise garbage.
4 - some stated that the images on the CD would be without markings

I somewhat took this as being the "standard" in TFCD work. Then, I ran into a heated debate on modelplace about the same topic a few days ago. It seems that a lot of photographers do this differently. Some give ONLY the web optimized images on their CD's and sell prints, some use very explicit release agreements that detail specific uses and number of prints allowed, but everyone except for me and one other guy marks all of their images with their logos. In fact, one guy who puts his logo on high resolution images himself said that if a model presents a photograph with a photographer's logo on it to an agent, it'll most-likely end up in the trash. If that's the case and he knows this, why in the hell is he putting his logo on the images?

Anyway, that's not the point. The point is, I'm wondering if this is geographic. Each of the people in the thread debating this topic on modelplace were all from different areas of the country. I'm wondering if it was coincidence that we all seem to do it just a little bit differently, or does everyone basically put his own unique spin on this? The common argument about the logo was that images are less likely to be stolen if they're marked. Apparently, image burglary is a pretty common thing?

The TFCD projects I'm working on right now are collaborations between me, MUA's, stylists and the models. We're all pretty much equally involved and it's all on a TFCD basis. I've been including unmarked, high and low resolution images on the CD (including the unfinished images).

After the debate on MP, I've been rethinking all of it, but I want to do what's fair and what's standard. TFCD is a barter trade. When the guy told me he only includes web pictures on the CD, I asked, would a model actually work for just web images? That hardly seemed like a fair trade. Then, if I mark everything with my logo, isn't that unfair to the other people on the team? What about the MUA and stylist? And, I don't think it would be fair to mark the high resolution images if a model can't use it in her book.

What do other photographers here do? What do models expect / want? I thought about making it a TFP/CD thing instead. I'd include, marked web pictures on the CD and a clean set of 8X10 prints. Maybe make reprints available for 50% of my regular print price for a period of time or something like that. I don't want to end up setting up a TFCD agreement that isn't standard to this demographic - that's the bottom line. What I'm doing right now obviously works - who's gonna complain about receiving all of the images, unmarked? LOL

Like I said, I'd love to hear from photographers, and models as well. Not to mention, stylists, designers, and anyone else who's had some TFCD dealings.

advice needed from wedding photographers

i hope someone can help me out here.

I have been begged to be a photographer for someone's wedding ...something I have not done for well over fifteen years. I was very honest about where my skills are, but she insisted. What could I say?

Anyway, I have two major problems.

First, we're having a tough time deciding on what would be a fair fee. The shoot would include both the ceremony and the reception ...pretty much a full day of shooting. I also proposed that I simply hand over the digital files for them print on their own as a way to cut their costs and my involvement doing things they could pretty much do themselves. As well, I hardly classify myself as a full-time professional, and certainly not anything on par with those who shoot lots of weddings.

Second, the reception is at night and I cannot remember the last time I ever used a flash ...I much prefer natural light. So I'm wondering what I should look for in a flash and where I may look to find a quick tutorial or tips on how to make it work. Fortunately I have about a month or so to practice and sharpen my skills, though I won't get to see the building until the actual wedding weekend (five hour drive).

Bay Area) and offer professional BDSM/Fetish/Fantasy sessions in a safe, caring, environment. Everything we do is legal and we are very low key. We would like someone who is committed enough to work with all 15-20 of us through three or four days of shooting.

You don't need experience in fetish/ bdsm photography but you must be EXTREMELY open minded and easy going about seeing what some people may think of as "weird" stuff.

At the end of the project you will have an extremely diverse yet cohesive body of work, hopefully ranging from beautiful head shots to wild and bizzarre fetish scenarios, and we will all have 2-5 shots each for our website showcasing our diversity, unique beauty, and specialties. This would be ideal for you because it will be several willing and free models, many of whom are experienced.

All of us are fun and laid back in general. You should be too (with a strong work ethic as well of course).

I want to do something that's moody and uses more ambient and available light as opposed to strobes. I'd like the photos to feel like there's a story behind them rather than just a body in a corset type of thing. I think the right atmosphere is very important and I'd like to use DoF creatively. SF East Bay area - Need location to shoot discreet work 2/3 or 2/4

Bay area folks,

Know of a place to shoot some discreet work (indoors, but if you know of a great outdoor location, I'll be looking for those for the warmer weather as well)? Hoping to find a place between Oakland and Milpitas, and out to Pleasanton (hoping closer to Oakland). Possibility of shooting in San Francisco as well. I know the hotels, etc. but those are so boring for backgrounds, etc. Looking for a place to shoot, and will need to shoot for about 2-3 hours. Well lit, and of course it needs electrical for the equipment, etc. Can't afford too much - this is a shoot for her website and she's not raking in the money yet.

Come on you kinky lot - I know you'll come through for me.

I am a 31 year-old, bi-male, aspiring model looking for a photogrpaher(s) who would like to do a TFP shoot for my own portfolio. I am trying to get involved in doing some adult work (mostly B-B films) and also have some nice pictures for personal ads, friends and the like.

Also about me: nice guy, reliable, love doing the work even when there isn't $$$ involved, play and share well with others

I ask that you:

(1.) Have a basic understanding of photography, running a camera, lighting, a studio or other safe place to work
(2.) Be upfront about your expectations...I am looking to have clothed, nude and semi-nude pictures done by different photographers. If you have desires above that, I will entertain them but be professional and upfront about your expectations
(3.) Understand and respect a boundary when it is drawn
(4.) Be willing to chat some via e-mail, and meet in person at a pubilc place for coffee to discuss the project and take some time getting to know each other so I feel safe.
(5.) Be prepared to sign an informal agreement that is designed to administer the release of the photos for both of our needs.
(6.) Be prepared to show photo ID when the contract is signed.
Amateurs, low-experience, spank bank collectors and the like are welcome, but I ask you put your best foot forward and I will ask to see samples of your work. As an affirmative action believer, women get first priority when responding.

We want to offer decent rates, seeing as most artists may lack the funds to pay a photographer. However, we want to get an idea what the average photographer out there would charge for that kind of service. And, of course, we would appreciate any other advice people might have for us. I've always had trouble with "bios" and I never really know where to begin or exactly what to say.

I am a native born and bred Dallasite, so I guess this makes me a true Southerner....like it or not. The first 50 years of my life I have spent learning about life and now I'm using the last years to express what I've learned and seen and I'm able to put that reflection into my art. There is no formal art education tucked under my belt, just trial and error. Actually, being self-taught has been fun. It has shown me how to express myself in my own way without any interference from the outside world.

With the dawn of the 21st century came the awakening of my need to paint. Since then, I've grown in more ways than I can imagine and a true sense of joy/peace/tranquility/creativity and just plain "fun" has taken over my life as an artist. I've also discovered that art can be a catharsis for the soul and with color, texture and movement in my paintings, I can express the mood of the moment.....that's the fun part of painting. There is also pride that comes with being an artist. I'm proud of the pieces I've created and I enjoy sharing my art with friends, family and strangers.

My style as an artist....who knows.....maybe a bit abstract, maybe a bit contemporary, maybe a bit crude....maybe a bit bold, but always a reflection of "me". I like color. I like texture. I like movement. I like the fact that I can transform the ideas in my head to pigment and texture and flow on my canvas.
